Why don't Birds get Electrocuted on Power Cables?

Have you ever Wondered ?

  • Do birds get shocked when they sit on wires?
  • How does electricity flow?

Electricity flows by the movement of electrons through conductors. The copper wire in electrical wires is a great conductor of electricity.
Copper allows electricity to flow easily along its surface.
Electricity flows along the path of least resistance. Birds don't get shocked when they sit on electrical wires because they are not good conductors of electricity. Their cells and tissues do not offer electrons an easier route than the copper wire they're already traveling along.
However Power cable runs at different potential. If birds feet are on same cable, then they are at same potential. Thus birds didn't get electrocuted. But when Birds touches two cable with different potential at same time, Then electricity will flow through bird's body. So bird will be electrocuted.
